Highlights
Game-viewing in the spectacular Ngorogoro Crater, Selous Game Reserve,
Ruaha and Serengeti National Parks. Trekking in the Usambara Mountains
and Tarangire Ecosystem.
Safari Type
A high-end 22 day package combining mobile camping, luxury private lodges
and tented camps, fully guided in specially equipped 4wd landrovers with
experienced guides and support crews.
Itinerary
Day 1
Clients are met in Dar es Salaam and transferred to the
Seacliff Hotel for briefing and overnight.
Day 2
After breakfast, to the airport for flight to the Selous Game Reserve
where we will be met by our Guides. The rest of the day is spent gameviewing
in the Selous. Dinner and overnight is at our mobile camp at Beho Beho
Camp or Rufiji River Tented Camp.
Day 3 & 4
Full days gameviewing within the Selous where we expect to see Africa
Hunting dogs and Greater Kudu. We will explore the Selous by vehicle,
with additional foot safaris and boat trips on the Tagalala Lake. Dinners
and overnight at Beho Beho Camp.
Day 5
After breakfast we depart from Selous and head towards the town of Morogoro,
nestled at the foot of he Uluguru Hills. Dinner and overnight is at the
Morogoro Kolo Hills Motel.
Day 6
This morning we continue on our journey to the Ruaha National Park, Ruaha
has one of the largest populations of elephants and African Hunting Dogs
in East Africa. Dinner and overnight is at the superbly-located Ruaha
River Lodge.
Day 7 & 8
We spend a couple of days gameviewing and exploring Ruaha National Park.
At this time of the year the game is concentrated around the river and
local watering holes, with large concentration of elephant, hippo and
crocodiles. Dinners and overnight are spent at the Ruaha River Lodge.
Day 9
After breakfast we depart for Mikumi National Park, nestled in the horseshoe
of the Uluguru and Lumango mountains on the Mkata River. Dinner and overnight
is at our mobile campsite within the Park.
Day 10
Full day viewing within Mikumi National Park, where we hope to see the
very endemic and very rare Iringa Red Colobus as well as over 300 species
of birds. Dinner and overnight at Campsite.
Day 11
After an early breakfast we leave Southern Tanzania and drive towards
the Usambara Mountains, a verdant and fertile range of hills in Northern
Tanzania. Dinner and overnight is at Grants Lodge in Lushoto.
Day 12
Today is spent walking in the Usambaras with local Guides. The area is
reknowned for its endemic birds and plants set against a back drop of
spectacular rainforests and mountains vistas. Dinner and overnight at
Grants Lodge.
Day 13
After breakfast we leave the Usambaras and continue our expedition towards
the twin peaks of Kilimanjaro and Meru. We will stop for lunch in the
town of Moshi at the foot of Kilimanjaro before heading on to Tarangire
Conservation Area and our overnight stop at Naitolia Camp.
Days 14 & 15
Over these two days we explore the Tarangire ecosystem and its wildlife
on foot and by vehicle. We will also take the opportunity to observe some
of the areas nocturnal animals such as bat-eared foxes, genet cats
and white-tailed mongooses on a night-drive one evening. Dinners are taken
at Naitolia Camp.
Day 16
Early this morning we set out on our last walk within the Tarangire area
before returning to Naitolia for lunch. After Lunch we depart for the
Ngorongoro Highlands and our stay at the opulent Ngorongoro Crater Camp.
Day 17
We spend the day game viewing within Ngorongoro Crater, a spectacular
caldera teeming with as wide a cross-section of African wildlife as you
will find on the continent. Here, we hope to catch sight of the black
rhino in one of its last refuges in Tanzania. Dinner and overnight at
the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge.
Day 18
After breakfast we depart for Serengeti plains, game-viewing on the way.
En-route we will stop and visit the archaeological site of Olduvai George
where Dr. Louis Leakey discovered the fossilized remains of the nutcracker
man in the early 50s. Dinner and overnight at our camp in
the Seronera Valley.
Day 19
Today is spent exploring the short grass plains of the Serengeti and the acacia
forests of the Seronera Valley. Amidst this are the kopjes, the rocky outcrops
celebrated in countless wildlife documentaries, and home Dinner and overnight
is at our campsitein the Seronera valley.
Day 20
We break camp after breakfast and drive north towards the Kenyan border and
the Grumeti River area of the Northern Serengeti. Unlike the Serengeti plains
and Seronera valley, the Grumeti River area is wooded valleys and riverine
habitat. Dinner and overnight is at Migration Camp, a permanent tented camp
built overlooking a bend in the Grumeti River.
Day 21
Full day exploring the Grumeti River area and northern Serengeti. Dinner and
overnight is at Migration Camp.
Day 22
This morning we transfer to the flight to Arusha where we connect with transfers
to Nairobi or onwards to Zanzibar.
Included:
All transfers, game drives, walking safaris, all accommodation as indicated,
all park fees, Conservation area fees, all meals as indicated, camping equipment
and unlimited use of a 4WD safari vehicle with English-speaking Guide.
Not Included:
